Characterization of patients with malignant solid lesions of the pancreas using endoscopic ultrasound
Keywords:
malignant solid lesions of the pancreas; endoscopic ultrasoundAbstract
Introduction: Pancreatic tumors are the third cause of digestive death according to health statistics. Endoscopic ultrasound has become a very useful basic tool in the diagnosis and differentiation of pancreatic pathologies.
Objective: To describe the characteristics of malignant solid tumors of the páncreas using endoscopic ultrasound in patients treated at the Institute of Gastroenterology.
Methods: A descriptive, ambispective, cross-sectional, case series observational study was carried out on all patients with a diagnosis of malignant solid lesions of the pancreas by endoscopic ultrasound treated at the Institute of Gastroenterology. Clinical and endoscopic variables of interest were determined in the patients studied.
Results: The study universe consisted of 78 patients with a predominance of males (53.8%), most frequently between 50 and 59 years of age. Most malignant solid lesions of the pancreas were located in the cephalic portion of the organ (64.1%). In most cases the vascular compromiso was at the level of the portal vein in 17 individuals. At the time of diagnosis, pancreatic lesions were staged in advanced stages (T3 – T4) (55 cases).
Conclusion: Male sex predominated between 50 and 59 years old. Most cases presented involvement of the portal vein and the diagnosis was established in advanced stages.
